Former United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo hinted on Sunday that he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin could decide to kill Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin, despite deciding to drop the case against him and allowing him to go to Belarus in the aftermath of a failed rebellion.
"I wouldn't insure his life," Pompeo told WABC 770 AM. "He's not likely to find grace with Vladimir Putin again. Whether that ends up with him drinking some bad tea or just permanently in exile, it's hard to know," he added.
The former American top diplomat noted he thinks that Russian senior military leaders, including Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu, told Putin that Prigozhin was "getting too big for his britches" and that the Russian president started "threatening" his power.
