United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary Anne DiCarlo (pictured) pointed out on Friday that Russia's attacks on Ukraine's Black Sea ports represent another "blow" to global food security, which resulted in the destruction of "critical infrastracture, facilities, and grain supplies."
"We strongly condemn these attacks and urge Russia to stop them immediately," DiCarlo told during her opening remarks at the UN Security Council's meeting, saying that they violate Russia's pledges under the memorandum of understanding with the UN. "Any risk of conflict spillover as a result of military incident in the Black Sea, whether intentional or by accident must be avoided at all costs, as this could result in potentially catastrophic consequences to us all," DiCarlo underscored.
Meanwhile, Moscow insisted that its armed forces only targeted military infrastracture in the Odessa region.
