The Swiss Federal Council announced its decision to align itself with the European Union's eleventh sanctions package against Moscow on Wednesday.
In June, Switzerland partially implemented the sanctions package agreed by the European Union, adding restrictions against Russian entities and individuals. However, the Council decided to impose the remaining restrictions proposed by the bloc to curb the exports of dual-use goods and goods that contribute to Russia's "military" and "technological enhancement," as well as a ban on the ban export of "electronic components" and "precursors to chemical weapons."
"The ban on transit through Russia has also been extended to other goods, such as jet fuels and fuel additives," the Council stated. Moreover, the existing restriction on selling securities, which initially applied to Swiss francs or an official EU member state currency, has been expanded to entirely prohibit sales to Russian citizens, regardless of the currency.
