Head of the Armenian government said that he read the wording of the Declaration many times prior to the 2020 war and particularly after it, Ednews reports citing Sputnik Armenia.
"A critical analysis of the text of this Declaration shows that we chose the discourse and content based on the formula that eventually made us a part of the USSR. We are talking about the regional environment and the confrontation discourse that keeps us in a state of conflict with our neighbors," Pashinyan said.
According to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, although, Armenia announced the course of withdrawal from the USSR with this Declaration, at the same time, it closed all the ways to exit from it.
Pashinyan believes that with the declaration adopted at the end of the 20th century, Armenia once again accepted the formula that led to the loss of its country's independence at the beginning of the 20th century.
Nikol Pashinyan said that this document needs a deep analysis, because it is a political document with all subsequent consequences after its adoption.
“Now, on the 33rd anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, I want to emphasize that our peace agenda is the independence agenda. If we achieve peace, we will achieve independence as well. As long as there is no peace, the spirit of USSR will fly in our sky, in the sky of our region,” Pashinyan stressed.
The prime minister said that he chooses independence, sovereignty and democracy.
Note that Armenia’s Declaration of Independence was adopted on August 23, 1990.
