Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (Tepco) has started the process of releasing the treated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean, Japanese media reported on Thursday.
Tepco previously promised to "devote all of its resources to ensuring the safety and quality of facility operation, speedily obtaining monitoring results and disseminating that information in an accurate and easy-to-understand manner, ensuring transparency."
Although some countries expressed concerns over the dumping, calling it a "wrong" decision, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida insisted that this issue "cannot be put off."
