The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) shared on Monday in a statement that it has halted the "illegal activities" of an informant of the United States Embassy in Moscow.
"Russian citizen Shonov Robert Robertovich ... was charged with committing a crime under article 275.1 of the criminal code of Russia's Cooperation on a confidential basis with a foreign state," the FSB said. Russia claimed that he was instructed to collect information related to the "special military operation, mobilization processes, [and] problematic moments."
Jeffrey Sillin and David Bernstein, the employees of the political department of the US Embassy in Moscow, for whom Shonov has been carrying out tasks, will also be interrogated, the FSB underlined. Shonov was arrested back in March.
