Prof Yunus - known internationally as the "banker to the poor" - has been slapped with swathes of lawsuits, with several more filed in recent weeks.
To foreign donors, development wonks and some of the world’s poorest people, Muhammad Yunus is a hero. The Bangladeshi economist, social entrepreneur and founder of Grameen Bank pioneered the use of microloans and other services for those too marginalised to access conventional banking systems. In 2006 Mr Yunus won the Nobel peace prize for his work in grassroots development—empowering the most impecunious. The model he helped pioneer did much to improve economic, social and health conditions in Bangladesh. It has since spread across continents.
The 83-year-old professor, who has carried out so many works and projects, is now facing court charges.
Even the world's most famous publications such as "BBC", "Economist" have articles about the works and projects implemented by Dr. Muhammad Yunus (you can read more here: https://www.economist.com/asia/2023/08/24/the- trials-of-muhammad-yunus, https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-66667433)
Also, as these pressures against Dr. Muhammad Yunus increased, ex-US President Barack Obama wrote a letter of support for Dr. Muhammad Yunus, expressing his hope that the Nobel Peace Prize-winning economist could continue to do his important work. Nobel Peace Prize laureates were among those who supported Dr. Muhammad Yunus. A web page (https://protectyunus.wordpress.com/) has been launched to support the professor.
Umud Mirzayev, president of the International Eurasia Press Fund, is among those who support Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The head of the foundation noted that the famous scientist was ranked 25th in the list of "The Most Influential Business People of the Last 25 Years" by the "Wharton" Business School:
"For his constant search for innovation and efficient entrepreneurial activity, Fortune magazine awarded Muhammad Yunus the 12th place in the list of "12 genius entrepreneurs of our time" in March 2012. "AsiaWeek" (Hong Kong) organization chose him as one of the twenty genius Asians. Professor Muhammad Yunus has been awarded 55 honorary degrees in universities from 20 countries, as well as 112 awards from 26 countries, including state awards from 10 countries. He is one of seven recipients of the US Presidential Medal of Freedom and the US Congressional Gold Medal."
According to U. Mirzayev, the guidebook "The Banker of the Poor" written by Muhammad Yunus, the founder of the Gramen Bank and more than 50 economic institutions operating in 41 countries of the world, into Azerbaijani was one of the important events:
"The work is a collection of the high value given to man and the struggle for it. The book mentions the possibility of achieving success only with hard work, diligence, high knowledge and experience."
