Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev urged Japan on Sunday to stop the militarization of the country.
"It is regrettable that the Japanese authorities are pursuing a course towards a new militarization of the country," Medvedev said at an event marking the end of World War II, which concluded after Tokyo surrendered. "Japan must learn lessons from history, the memorable date of which we are celebrating today, and fully recognize the results of the World War II, do everything to prevent a third from flaring up. Give up militaristic plans for the benefit of its own people," the Russian official insisted.
Japan surrendered to the United States in World War II on September 2, 1945, after Washington struck Hiroshima and Nagasaki with atomic bombs a month earlier.
