The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has criticized the French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD) for “not being tough enough” and threatened with sanctions, Ednews reports citing Agence France-Presse.
According to the source, WADA sent a letter to the AFLD, listing three recent doping cases and accusing the French agency of making decisions “clearly inconsistent with neither the World Anti-Doping Code nor the case law of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.”
On Tuesday, the AFLD released a statement saying that WADA is threatening to initiate proceedings that could result in French athletes being banned from certain international competitions and from hosting similar events such as the Olympic Games. The French department also condemned WADA for “real blackmail”.
The Summer Olympic Games will be held in France from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
