As part of the CSTO summit, the leaders of the organization’s member countries have discussed the situation in the Caucasus, Alexander Lukashenko said at the CSTO summit, Ednews informs referring to Belarus media.
“We discussed the situation in the Caucasus and the dissatisfaction of one of the members of the Collective Security Council. We came to the same conclusion that there have always been problematic issues, there will be, and if we intend to resolve them, this must be done at the negotiating table, and not in the form of demarches for no reason,” Lukashenko said, referring to the refusal of the Armenian side to take part in the event.
He noted that during the meeting in a narrow format, the heads of state assessed how the situation in the world affects security. Issues of resolving crisis situations in the regions adjacent to the CSTO area of responsibility were also discussed.
“All members of the Collective Security Council noted that the current international situation is characterized by a high degree of confrontation and polarization, requiring us to further consolidate our efforts and strengthen our organization as an important factor in ensuring security in the Eurasian region,” the Belarusian leader noted.
In accordance with the organization’s procedure, the chairmanship in the CSTO will pass to Kazakhstan from January 1, 2024.
