Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday that Argentina is currently contemplating whether or not to join the BRICS and collaborate with this alliance in the future. This invitation was extended to Argentina during the bloc's summit in August.
"With the inclusion of new members in BRICS, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the Emirates, Iran, Ethiopia - and Argentina has now taken a time out to think - of course, the interest in Latin America in the unification is very strong, but with the entry of new members the work will become more multifaceted and reaching agreements will require more time," Lavrov said during a meeting of the commission of the General Council of the United Russia party on international cooperation and support for compatriots abroad.
Previously, Argentina's newly appointed Foreign Minister Diana Mondino rejected the invitation.
