United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed Washington's support for "tangible steps" that would lead to the founding of a Palestinian state, his spokesperson Matthew Miller stated on Wednesday.
In a statement that followed Blinken's meeting with Palestinian National Authority (PNA) President Mahmoud Abbas, Miller said that the secretary stressed the US's backing of the two-state system as a solution to the conflict between the latter territory and Israel, "with both living in peace and security."
Blinken noted the US is aware of the "increased volatility" in the zones inhabited mainly by Palestinians, such as the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Moreover, according to Miller, he "underscored the United States' position that all Palestinian tax revenues collected by Israel should be consistently conveyed to the Palestinian Authority in accordance with prior agreements."
