After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the process of integration with the West accelerated in many Eastern European countries. The Baltic states, such as the Czech Republic and Poland, which were freed from Soviet bondage more quickly, were even soon included in NATO. But for Ukraine it was not as easy as the others. First of all, it should be noted that Ukraine is ethnically closer to Russia. On the other hand, pro-Russian forces have long been entrenched in Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada and military administration.
In this regard, the message of the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova to the Kiev administration confirms this. In her message the Russian diplomat said: "The Kiev administration must remember the fate of Iraq, Syria and Libya, in other words, other countries occupied by the United States. Although this sounds like a kind of threatening statement, when taken from another context, it also means that she is sending a message of the call to Ukraine, for peace and unity.
"They spread death and chaos all over the world with hatred and arrogance. Even if the Kiev regime wants to be a partner in this extreme ugliness, it must understand that this role will not be given to them by the curators. The term 'industrial accident' will be used in the next scenario, which will be shot in accordance with Hollywood rules in the Ukrainian context," Zakharov added.
Germany, Britain, France and Ireland, two of Europe's leading nations, have recently refused military support to Ukraine. In this regard, the message "we do not want to interfere in the common cause of peoples with the same roots. One day they will unite, and we will be in a bad situation," came from the Foreign Minister of Ireland.
Today, Ukraine is swinging between the West and Russia in order to choose the direction. No matter how pro-Western the masses at home, the Kremlin's close ties to the governing system do not guarantee a solid victory in the country to reconcile or get rid of Russia.
Political expert Ilgar Velizadeh told Ednews that the war is beneficial for neither party. According to him, if Russia and Ukraine start a war, not only both sides, but also European countries will suffer.
"That's why Europe's leading powers, including Germany, which supplies energy to Russia, are trying to avoid war.
Another issue is the impact of the pandemic that has affected the economy. Every European country today faces the same challenge. Even inside Ukraine, the situation is tense. Foreign investors are leaving the country. There is a tendency towards chaos and mistrust in the country. In that case, the war would be a step in the right direction."
In addition, the political expert confirmed the views of the Irish diplomat on the ethnic and national closeness of Ukraine and Russia.
"What the Irish Foreign Minister Simon Covey said means, of course, that the West sees Ukraine as ethnically close to Russia. In addition, you know that there are pro-Russian forces in the Ukrainian system of government. The West takes into account military, economic and political issues in its approach to Ukraine.
Ilgar Velizade also touched upon the statement made by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. He noted that this is both a threat and a message to Kiev.
"This message from the Russian official is also a kind of awakening of Ukraine," he said. The results of the US intervention in the Middle East have shown that such steps, as in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, eventually lead to fragmentation and mass death.
Of course, democracy is a very good thing. But if there are any interests behind democracy, it will end in disaster. In other words, the Iraqi and Syrian versions mentioned by Zakharova cannot be ruled out within Ukraine.
