Joint exercises between the Russian and Syrian militaries are set to start on July 5, Rear Admiral Oleg Gurinov, the deputy leader of the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria, told Russian state media on Tuesday.
The six-day drills in Syria will focus on air forces and air defense, according to the Russian military official.
"Terrorist groups" Jabhat al-Nusra and the Islamic Party of Turkestan launched a total of six artillery attacks against the Syrian government forces over the past day in the Idlib de-escalation zone and in the provinces of Aleppo and Latakia, Gurinov revealed at a briefing.
