Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu outlined the conditions for achieving peace in the war with Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip, Ednews reports via an article in The Wall Street Journal.
He noted that to end the fighting it is necessary to destroy the Hamas movement, demilitarize the Gaza Strip and “deradicalize the entire Palestinian society.” Netanyahu claims that the idea of destroying Hamas is supported by the United States, Great Britain, France, Germany and many other countries. To achieve this goal, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) needs to “dismantle the military capabilities” of the militants, as well as “put an end to its political rule in Gaza.”
Netanyahu notes that Palestinian society “needs to be transformed” so that it fights terrorism rather than “finances it.” “This will likely require courageous and moral leadership. Expecting the Palestinian National Authority to demilitarize Gaza is a pipe dream,” Netanyahu states.
