Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant slammed on Tuesday the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Khan, who requested an arrest warrant for him and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as for Hamas leaders. Gallant said the request is an "attempt to deny the State of Israel the right to defend itself and release its abductees" held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The Khan argued that both the Israeli and Hamas officials are guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity. However, Gallant claimed the Israeli military "fights in accordance with the rules of international law, taking unique humanitarian efforts the likes of which have not been taken in any armed conflict." Israel has also been brought before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) by South Africa on charges of genocide.
