Media: Iran choosing between striking Israel and a "covert operation"

The Iranian government continues to discuss options for responding to Israel for the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian movement Hamas in Tehran.

According to Ednews, which cites the American CBS channel, the Islamic Republic is choosing between a massive strike on Israel and conducting a "covert intelligence operation." In April, Iran attacked Israeli territory with hundreds of missiles and drones in response to the shelling of the Iranian consulate in Damascus, where two generals of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and 11 other people were killed. The Israel Defense Forces then stated that the attack was completely repelled.

The US believes that Iran will not try to disrupt the ongoing negotiations in Doha on ending the conflict in the Gaza Strip. Consultations in Qatar may drag on until the end of this week, and it is unclear how long Iran and its regional allies will delay their response to the Jewish state, CBS notes.

According to its sources, the leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement, Hassan Nasrallah, who promised to avenge Israel for the elimination of the group's chief military strategist Fuad Shokr in Beirut, does not want to launch a large-scale strike on the Jewish state without coordination with Iran. The TV channel believes that the Hezbollah leader is not interested in expanding the conflict with Israel but may attack without warning.
