Ben Affleck, who stars as the Caped Crusader Batman in DC’s Extended Universe, may be replaced in the role by Source Code actor Jake Gyllenhaal according to a rumour. Earlier, in an interview with Extra, Ben Affleck had sounded non-committal in the answer to a question. It is not certain whether he will star as the Dark Knight in the standalone movie that would be helmed by Matt Reeves.
A rumour has surfaced suggesting that Matt Reeves had met Jake Gyllenhall to consider him for the role, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Affleck himself had said that he is “contemplating” starring in The Batman a few days ago. “The new Batman movie being developed by Matt Reeves is something I’m contemplating. You don’t do it forever, so I want to find a graceful and cool way to segue out of it.”
Multiple actors before Affleck have donned the role of the protector of Gotham city. Before DC’s Extended Universe took birth, Christopher Nolan had directed the uber-successful Dark Knight trilogy starring Christian Bale in the titular role. Other actors who have played Batman include Val Kilmer, George Clooney and Michael Keaton.
Ben Affleck stars in Justice League, a Zack Snyder directorial, released today. It is the fifth film in the DC Extended Universe after Man of Steel, Suicide Squad, Batman v Superman and Wonder Woman. As opposed to Marvel’s approach to giving standalone movies to their superheroes, DC did the opposite approach and given solo films only to Superman and Wonder Woman.
