The Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Məclis, Sahiba Gafarova, during her meeting in Tashkent with the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, discussed further expansion of parliamentary cooperation. According to the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Məclis, a broad exchange of views took place regarding the relations between the parliaments of both countries.
It was stated that the mutual visits of the heads of state of Azerbaijan and Pakistan have stimulated the expansion of relations. It was emphasized that both countries have successful cooperation relations on a bilateral basis and consistently support each other in all international platforms.
It was noted that the legislative bodies of the two countries play an important role in further developing these relations. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova recalled with satisfaction her meeting with the Senate Chairman in February of this year in Baku, mentioning that close contacts and positive dialogue serve the cooperation between the parliaments.
The meeting also expressed satisfaction with the cooperation and mutual support in international parliamentary organizations. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova informed her counterpart about the activities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, established under the initiative of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and the steps taken towards the organizational development of the network. Confidence was expressed that the fourth conference of the Network, to be held in Tashkent, would lead to important discussions and successful results regarding the future development of the organization.
Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani highly appreciated the work done under Azerbaijan’s leadership of the Parliamentary Network. He emphasized that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Azerbaijan, noting that Pakistan and Azerbaijan are brotherly countries that have always supported each other. He also expressed the importance of contacts between the peoples.
During the meeting, other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
