"Today, terrorism turns out to worry not only us, but also Europe as well. Terrorist groups want to capture people both psychologically and physically.The threat of terror worries everyone including adults, children, the old and youth, the poor and rich, " says Galib Nuri Nasr, Assistant Professor of Basra University in his exclusive interview to Eurasia Diary. Currently, Galib Nuri works at Azerbaijan Medical University.
Over the last week hundreds of people died, more than thousand people were injured as result of a number of terrorist explosions in different areas of Iraqi capital city of Baghdad.
Answering to our questions regarding the recent continuous blasts happened in Iraq, Galib Nuri noted that, " terrorist acts were committed in Brussels, France and Turkey during the last months as well. Terrorism rises globally. Terrorist groups intend to rule over the region and world by committing terror acts that cause to mass scale of destructions and human loss."
"Strategic points of city centers, such as historical points, crowded bazaars and shopping centers, and more often religious temples are chosen as targets," - he said.
"Terrorism differs from conventional war methods because it is a one-sided brutal attack. At the moment, everyone living in Iraqi society suffers from the threat terrorism. It doesn’t matter in which provinces terrorism occurs it affects all."
Galib Nuri said that, "When happens in Europe, the reactions are massive such as the active life in that city is paused. However, when it happens in Iraq, the situation is completely different and the reactions are not the same as well."
"The tragedy here is that terrorism no longer surprises people living in this part of the world. The tragedy is that people get to used to it as an everyday activity and such kind of blasts can no longer surprise the Iraqis."
"My family lives in the city of Basra, Iraq. Every morning is anxiety for my children, family, and relatives. In the part of Iraq where my family lives terror acts happen less often compared to other provinces of the country. When I heard the news of terror I’m concerned for not only my family but also for everyone living there. In fact, every day dozens of people became constant victims of terrorism. "
"I have friends and relatives there", - he adds. "Over the recent incidents it is not easy to put into words the feelings, anxiety, regret, and fear of Iraqis."
To the end of our conversation he stated that "today, there is no other nation comparable to Iraqis that witnessed so much terror in the history. People of Iraq are of great endurance and patience. Unfortunately, this patience is not limitless…"
"People of Iraq desire to live in peace, stability and prosperity. Unfortunately, for the moment of time this does not seem likely…"
