Information about the domestic policy of Russia, which has become a hotbed of conflict, has attracted the attention of the world community.
The statement given by former Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov to the Western press that "Putin's regime will be overthrown" raised a lot of questions.
Ukrainian political expert Oleksandr Merezhko said this in an interview with Ednews.
- Putin can resign. This was stated by former Prime Minister of Russia Mikhailo Kasyanov. How close to the truth is what the ex-Russian PM stated, and in your opinion, who will be the new candidate?
- Putin is unlikely to easily resign. A more likely option is his removal from power by his entourage. A kind of palace coup, which is typical for Russian history. And this can happen when Putin becomes so toxic to his entourage that he will have to be eliminated at any cost. As a matter of fact, everything goes to this. In the eyes of the entire civilized world, Putin is a war criminal. It is unlikely that anyone from his entourage will want to share the fate of a war criminal.
Whoever replaces Putin now will be a temporary transitional figure from his inner circle, after which a more or less charismatic person may come to power in Russia. It is possible that Alexei Navalny may eventually come to power in Russia.
- After Putin's resignation, both in domestic and foreign policy, what changes are expected to come? What consequences can this lead to in the South Caucasus?
- After the elimination of Putin, changes will inevitably occur both inside Russia and in foreign policy. An attempt will be made to carry out internal reforms and democratization. In foreign policy, an attempt will be made to get closer to the civilized democratic world. However, all this is possible only when Russia completely withdraws its troops from the territory of Ukraine and bears international legal responsibility for all crimes and destruction.
In the South Caucasus, changes are inevitable. Russia will be forced to completely withdraw its troops from the territory of Azerbaijan and come to terms with the fact that Azerbaijan is a sovereign independent state. Russia's influence in Armenia will weaken and it may begin to move closer to Azerbaijan and Turkiye in the field of economic relations.
- What do you think the new candidate will be like? In other words, will Russia's current policy remain unchanged, or will some changes await us?
- The new Russian leader will be forced to carry out de-Putinization of political life in Russia and start serious negotiations with the West in order to return Russia to the bosom of democratic states. However, how successful such an attempt will be is a separate question. In Russia, the population has been subjected to massive corruptionist propaganda, and washing minds of masses is needed there.
- After Putin toppled, how will the obligations on the Ukrainian issue be resolved? If Russia loses, will compensation be paid?
- Sooner or later, Russia will have to be resbonsible for all the crimes committed against the Ukrainian people, including genocide. It is likely that the post-Putin Russian elite will initially put all crimes solely on Putin, although in fact the Russian people are an accomplice in all crimes against Ukraine. Russia will have to pay huge reparations to Ukraine for all the destruction, murders and crimes. These reparations are a requirement of international law and perhaps many generations of Russians will have to pay for crimes.
