This statement was made by Armenian political activist Ishkhan Verdiyan while commeting journalist Arman Abovyan’s reporting.
“The West wants to suppress Russia in the region by intervening in the peace agreement. The Armenian people must not allow this”, A. Abovyan said. As the result of his speech creates unclear questions. Armenians do not want peace because of Karabakh? Or do Armenians want peace, but there are those who prevent it? Who are those who do not allow peace, West, or Russia?
Ishkhan Verdiyan told to Ednews that the term “Armenians” is not unambiguous:
"The Armenian people in their aspirations are not as monolithic as the Azerbaijani people, and different parts of the Armenians want different things, sometimes the opposite. Karabakh Armenians do not even think about any peace with Azerbaijan. Remaining entirely under the rule and propaganda of the Russian Federation, the only thing they want is independence from Azerbaijan. Their opinion is unequivocal and categorical, and it seems that they are not going to change it, and they are not going to reckon with anyone in this matter, especially with Armenia, either."
According to him, on the other hand, Armenian residents of Armenia all want peace with Azerbaijan, and everyone intuitively understands that Karabakh should return to Azerbaijan:
"And this position of theirs is diametrically opposed to the position of the Armenians of Karabakh. However, they cannot clearly and distinctly formulate their position, because the propaganda machine that is actively working in the country, affiliated with Russia, every time draws them a picture in which Azerbaijan threatens to destroy the Armenian population of Karabakh, which makes people fear for the lives of their fellow tribesmen and does not allow them to leave "friends in trouble.""
He think that the situation is being actively destabilized by Russia, which abandoned all its information resources not to slow down the peace process:
"The Armenian propaganda machine associated with it every minute sets up lies for the population, distorts facts, ignores reality, which leads to a misperception of reality by people. From the lips of speakers from the Russian Federation, very unequivocal signals often sound that Karabakh is a zone of special interest for Russia, which means that Russia is not interested in the nearest settlement of the problem, or it offers its own version of the settlement, which may not imply a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan . The phrase “it is necessary to leave the solution of the Karabakh problem to the next generations” speaks for itself."
