“President Biden was speaking to a crowd of US Democratic donors who oftentimes have limited understanding of international or comparative politics.”
Lawrence Reardon, Professor, Department of Political Science at the University of New Hampshire said this to Ednews while commenting on Biden calling Chinese President Xi Jinping a dictator.
Professor noted that the media always refers to President Xi, which implies that he is democratically elected by the Chinese people:
“Biden is using the term "dictator" or authoritarian in front of such crowds to describe the Chinese paramount leader who leads the Chinese party-state in which the most important political position is voted upon by CCP Central Committee, which elects the most important political figure, the General Secretary.”
According to him, Chinese people understand the position of general secretary of the CCP is the most important political position in the party-state:
“They would never use the term, dictatorship. In 1949, the Chinese people accepted the rule of the Chinese Communist Party and its first paramount leader, Mao Zedong. The authoritarian one-party state claims hegemonic control over the party-state and controls all aspects of politics, economy, and society. Xi Jinping and the CCP have constantly repeated the concept that there is no one model of democracy and that China's system is true democracy that works.”
