On the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the Green March, the Moroccan Sovereign delivered a speech addressed to the Moroccan people, but also a message of peace to the Algerian neighbor in order to overcome the issues between the two Muslim countries.
Eurasia Diary reports, King Mohammed VI proposed the creation of a bilateral political mechanism for dialogue and consultation. The mechanism is meant to be a framework for frank and direct dialogue to smooth out all disputes and resolve all economic problems that hinder the development of bilateral relations. He stressed that the framework for bilateral cooperation would allow the examination of all common issues with honesty, objectivity and good faith, without preconditions. This consultation framework, he added, would concern regional issues such as the fight against terrorism, illegal migration, drug trafficking, etc.
According to the Moroccan Monarch, three reasons motivate this proposal:
1. Both countries struggled against the same colonizer and their peoples developed solid relationships and strong awareness of the need for a united Maghreb;
2. Both peoples are worried about the situation of division and discord happening in the Maghreb today;
3. The leaders of both countries are aware that they have to listen more to the aspirations and ambitions of their youths.
Morocco, he added, remains open to any proposals and initiatives from Algeria to build relations between the two countries upon solid foundations of trust, solidarity and good neighborliness
