Uzbekistan and Russia will be able to sign a contract for construction of a nuclear power plant before the end of this year, Uzatom Director General Jurabek Mirzamahmudov said.
According to the plan, a contract will be signed before the end of the year, Mirzamahmudov stated.
During a working visit to Uzbekistan last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the agreement was reached on a location of the nuke plant, which was not specified yet.
The first unit of the plant will be commissioned in 2028, the second in 2030, Mirzamahmudov said.
“According to our projections, electricity needs of Uzbekistan will double and will reach 170 billion kWh. The nuclear power plant will cover 15%-16% of the needs,” the Uzatom Director said.
The Presidents of Uzbekistan and Russia gave a start to construction of the nuclear power plant in Jizzakh having pushed a symbolic button on October 19, 2018.
