"If the country's authorities arrest Vladimir Putin, Armenia will be destroyed on the spot."
Ednews reports that political scientist Stepan Danielyan said this while commenting on the ratification of the Rome Statute in an interview with "Hraparak" publication of Armenia.
"Statements that the Armenian authorities want to sign such an agreement with Russia in order not to arrest the Russians or their president are just an attempt to avoid the real issue. The problem is that Russia views the ratification of the Rome Statute not because it fears Putin's arrest, but as an anti-Russian step towards entering the sphere of influence of the West.
According to the authorities, it is ratifying the Rome Statute to punish Azerbaijan, or at least to protect it from Azerbaijan. It is very funny that the Armenian authorities think that they can protect themselves from Azerbaijan by filing a lawsuit in the Hague court. This is absurd, nonsense.
Here, a question arises: if the charter does not bring benefits, then what is the purpose of ratification, especially since the United States, Russia and many other countries do not recognize this charter. What does this mean? This question is not clear to me, the government should clearly state what problem it is trying to solve. I believe that no self-respecting country will join the ratification of the charter," said the political scientist in the end.
