The Mazhilis (the lower house of the bicameral Parliament) of Kazakhstan has ratified a draft law that will help improve the level of protection of children's rights, Chairman of the Committee on Social and Cultural Development Askhat Aimagambetov said at a parliamentary meeting, Ednews media.
The purpose of the bill is to ratify the Optional Protocol (additional agreement to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child) to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 19, 2011.
“In accordance with the protocol, children or their representatives can directly file complaints about violations of their rights to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. The Committee considers each case and makes specific recommendations to the participating states,” he said.
The bill has been sent to the Senate.
