The US welcomes Türkiye’s productive role in normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said at a briefing, Ednews informs.
“So I will say that in all of our conversations – or all the conversations between the Secretary – between Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Fidan, that is a topic that comes up for conversation – as part of the conversation. So I won’t give a specific readout, but that is something that they regularly discuss when they either get together in person or when they talk on the phone. We welcome Türkiye playing a productive role in resolving this conflict. We agree with what the foreign minister said, that peace is conflict and we – or is possible and we would support direct talks between the two parties to achieve that,” he noted.
Hakan Fidan, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, said during a briefing that the subsequent period should be the beginning of stability in the South Caucasus.
“The further path should be continued peacefully. Türkiye’s relations with Armenia will improve after relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia are normalized. We support discussions between Azerbaijan and Armenia towards normalizing relations, and are ready to fulfill any tasks assigned to us,” Hakan Fidan added.
