"The fact that the South Caucasus is a peaceful region also worries the PACE" - MP Konul Nurullayeva

"Since 2001, when Azerbaijan became a member of the PACE, it has always shown a fair position regarding all the issues raised on this platform. However, unfortunately, the PACE did nothing but discredit our country. PACE, which turned a blind eye and supported the occupier, tried to suppress the right voice of Azerbaijan by refusing responsibility. It wanted to hide behind the half-finished decisions he made".

Ednews reports that this was said by Member of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijan Parliament) Konul Nurullayeva. According to her, nevertheless, when our country became a member of this organization, it expected a fair position from the PACE on the Karabakh issue:

"However, the institution not only did not try to resolve the conflict during these years, it also stimulated the aggressor even more by showing support to Armenia. The new realities that have emerged in the last 3 years have raised hopes for sustainable peace and security in the region, but on the contrary, they have worried the PACE even more. Therefore, Azerbaijan could not continue cooperation with a non-serious and biased organization like PACE. Our national interests are important for us. As an independent, sovereign, democratic and multicultural state, the reputation of Azerbaijan has increased considerably in the world. The suspension of cooperation with the PACE and the institution's biased accusations against our country did not affect the image of our country, and it cannot do so in the future. PACE discredited itself with this behavior. Azerbaijan does not lose anything by stopping cooperation.

The proposal to refuse to ratify the credentials of our delegation will be a serious blow to the credibility and impartiality of the European Council as a whole, and the responsibility for its serious and irreversible consequences will fall entirely on its initiators".

Mrs. Nurullayeva also stated that, in general, the anti-Azerbaijani forces in the West used this institution as a means of pressure against our country, and the same policy continues today.

"Those who could not digest the restoration of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan thought that they would speak to our country in the language of dictation. However, the Azerbaijani delegation made a very right decision - it stopped cooperation with this biased institution. With this historic decision, we proved that the accusations against Azerbaijan have no basis. As stated in the statement of the Delegation, "for 19 years from 2001 to 2020, PACE did not condemn the occupying Armenia to respond to its actions against the main values and principles of the Council of Europe. Here we are talking about a clear disrespect for the human rights of the Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs who were subjected to ethnic cleansing." PACE takes an anti-Azerbaijani position by labeling the measures implemented in its sovereign territories as "ethnic cleansing" based on international legal norms and principles. Reality is in sight. By ending the 30-year occupation, Azerbaijan is turning the region into a region of peace. Nevertheless, most Western institutions, including the PACE, are eager to break this plan and turn the region into a conflict zone again".
