Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the Azerbaijani MFA told Ednews.

During the meeting, issues arising from the cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and NATO, as well as the current situation in the region during the post-conflict period, were discussed.

Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan attaches importance to the further development of cooperation with NATO, especially the joint activities carried out within the framework of the ‘Partnership for Peace’ program, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. It was stated that cooperation aimed at contributing to international peace and security is also reflected in reforms, improvements, and professional development activities in the relevant field.

Talking about the process of preparation for Azerbaijan's hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) this year, the minister also pointed out that relevant measures have been taken to contribute to the fight against the threat of climate change.

The FM spoke in detail about the large-scale restoration and construction work carried out during the post-conflict period, the mine threat, which is one of the biggest challenges facing the activities, as well as the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

He stressed the importance of the support of the international community in the fight against the landmine problem, which threatens the safety of citizens, as well as the ongoing reconstruction work.

Meanwhile, Stoltenberg spoke about the importance of the country's contribution to the energy security of the NATO region, in addition to the commendable and exemplary performance of Azerbaijan in many peacekeeping missions within the framework of cooperation with NATO. Confidence was expressed that Azerbaijan's COP29 presidency will contribute to synergy between energy security and the fight against climate change, especially in the current year.

The meeting also focused on other regional and international issues of mutual interest.
