French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stressed on Monday the need for strengthening European sovereignty and resilience amidst global challenges like the pandemic and geopolitical shifts, Ednews informs.
"We can't take for granted the foundations on which we have built our European way of living and our role in the world. Our Europe is mortal, and we must rise to the challenge," both leaders said in an article published by the Financial Times.
Moreover, they also proposed enhancing the EU's competitiveness through innovation, investment, and reducing bureaucracy. While discussing green and digital transitions, the European leaders emphasized leveraging green transitions to develop future markets, industries, and jobs, aiming for climate neutrality.
