Russian President Vladimir Putin's security has been strengthened following the incident that took place in the United States when a man tried to take out former President Donald Trump, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday. The decision would have been made regardless of the events taking place in the Western world.
"The head of state's security is being ensured at the proper level, taking into account, of course, such an international escalation of tensions in general," Peskov detailed. He reaffirmed that Putin currently has no plans to contact Trump.
Previously, Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate Chief Kyrylo Budanov alleged in an interview with the Ukrainian magazine NV that "there have been [attempts to assassinate Putin], but as you can see, they have been unsuccessful so far."
