If Russia wins the "grain war" by seizing Ukraine's Black Sea coast, it will dominate trade routes to regions such as the Far East, South Asia, Africa and Europe. In this case, the West can directly intervene in the war as a response?
Speaking to Ednews about the issue, political expert Sebastian Schaeffer, managing director of the Danube Region and Central European Institute (IDM), said that he does not believe that the Black Sea coast will be captured by the Russian army:
"I do not see the Russian Federation being able to seize the Black Sea coast. However, increasing grain production in Russia as well as deals with countries in the global South gives Moscow currently an advantage. Nevertheless, Ukraine was able to open up transport routes in the Black Sea on their own and it will be able to defend itself.
Should the situation regarding support for Kyiv change and the Kremlin really be able to advance along the coast, there will be further ramifications that will have consequences for EU as well as NATO members. Like I said before, Ukraine is not only defending itself, but it also defending our values and the freedom of Europe."
