Azerbaijan's border service chief warns of 'transformation of border security threats'

A certain transformation of border security threats, emergence of new types and forms of transborder crimes, expansion of their geography have been observed over the past years, head of Azerbaijan's State Border Service Colonel-General Elchin Guliyev said at the 86th session of the Council of Commanders of the CIS Border Troops.
According to Ednews, Guliyev said that this in turn prompts the search and application of new approaches and solutions to ensuring border security.
"In this regard, the timely and correct assessment of the ongoing processes, complex and effective approach to ensuring border security are effective tools of countering international terrorism, separatism, transborder crime, including illegal migration, smuggling of drugs and other prohibited materials," Guliyev said.
