Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources has prepared an atlas of natural resources and maps of the Karabakh and East Zangazur economic regions, head of the ministry Mukhtar Babayev said at a public hearing in the parliament on the issues of combating the landmine threat and the negative impact of unexploded ordnance on the ecosystem, Ednews informs.
He noted that measures are being taken to restore specially protected natural areas, as well as biodiversity and natural monuments in these areas.
“The completely destroyed networks of hydrometeorological observations and environmental monitoring are being restored. In connection with the dynamic development of the region, in particular in order to meet the needs of the construction sector for raw materials, geological exploration is being carried out, and fields are being put into operation,” Babayev added.
Babayev noted that in the territories liberated from occupation, high-precision topographic, geodetic and cartographic work was carried out on 50,000 hectares of territory.
“These are eight cities, 23 villages and towns, Zangilan and Fuzuli international airports, as well as park areas. Topographic maps of various scales and an “electronic water map” have been prepared, as well as an atlas of natural resources and maps of the Karabakh and East Zangazur economic regions,” he added.
