By the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan dated August 6, 1998, the cancellation of the main department protecting state secrets in the press under the Cabinet of Ministers completely eliminated censorship in the press. All this played an important role in ensuring the freedom of speech, information and ideas in the country, the press became a powerful tool influencing the dynamic democratization of society. In order to ensure the consistency of this policy, the abolition of the Ministry of Press and Information facilitated the establishment of media subjects, the rules of their use, and the function of state control over the press was abandoned.
Ednews reports with reference to AZERTAC that the Executive Director of the Media Development Agency, Ahmet Ismayilov, said these words at a conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev on the topic "Role of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the development of the Azerbaijani media".
Ahmad Ismayilov said that the Great Leader, who traveled a rich and honorable path, was a legal and moral guarantor of the freedom and independence of the Azerbaijani press, played an important role in the formation of the attitude towards journalists in the society, and always appreciated the impact of the press on the society. he was in contact, was interested in their problems and never spared his help. The national leader made successive decisions in the direction of strengthening the material and technical base of media entities, strengthening the social protection of journalists, assigning them relevant benefits, and signed relevant decrees and orders.
