Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kalinak shared on Friday that the country's Prime Minister Robert Fico underwent another operation following the assassination attempt during which the 59-year-old politician suffered multiple gunshots in his chest and abdomen.
The defense minister noted that the surgery lasted around two hours and that the prime minister's condition remains "very serious." He remains in the intensive care unit at F.D. Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bystrica, where he was transported by helicopter after being shot, Ednews reports.
The Slovak police previously charged a 71-year-old suspect Juraj Cintula with attempted premeditated murder of the prime minister.
