The National Leader Heydar Aliyev's great importance to the press is clearly visible in all his interviews. August 1998 was a holiday for the press. Censorship was abolished by the Decree of National Leader Heydar Aliyev dated August 6, 1998. This event was presented with great fanfare in the world media. After the abolition of censorship, the conflict between the press and officials increased. The National Leader defended the press even then.

Ednews reports via  AZERTAC that the chairman of the Azerbaijan Press Council, Rashad Majid, said these words in his speech at the conference on "Role of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the development of the Azerbaijani press" organized by AZERTAC.

He said that the interviews of President Ilham Aliyev during the Patriotic War are a tool for teaching journalism.

Expressing confidence that the Global Media Forum held in Shusha will become a tradition, Rashad Majid said: "In the coming years, we will have meetings with famous journalists from different countries of the world, and President Ilham Aliyev will answer their questions in a way that will make us proud."
