The midfielder is looking for a move away due to the lack of first team action.
Denis Suarez was a promising signing for the club back in 2016 due to his top-flight experience with Villarreal and Sevilla as well as his strong understanding of Barcelona’s style from his spell with the B team prior to that. However, his move hasn’t worked out due to his inconsistency under Luis Enrique as well as an inability to make the most of first team opportunities under Ernesto Valverde.
The recent Copa del Rey match against Cultural Leonesa highlighted his issues as he was overshadowed by youngster Carles Alena and was unable to make the most of a 1v1 opportunity near the end. His future at the club already looked bleak at the start of the season, but his descent down the midfield pecking order suggests a move away would be the best way to rejuvenate his career. One appearance this season is nowhere near enough for someone of his ability.
According to AS, Denis wants to join Arsenal or at least a Premier League club in January but isn’t interested in staying in Spain. He would be the latest in a number of Barcelona players to join Premier League clubs. The Real Betis game showed how far he is down the pecking order because Philippe Coutinho’s injury and Ousmane Dembele’s illness didn’t even give him a route into the team due to Arturo Vidal, Munir and Malcom being used as substitutes ahead of him.
Getting into the Barcelona team is one of the toughest tasks in football due to the high standard required as well as the specific skillset needed. Therefore, he could definitely thrive at a top club such as Arsenal, although it would still be a step down. He offers versatility due to being able to play as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder or a winger so he would be an excellent squad player.
Arsenal are capable of free-flowing attacking moves that utilise intricate combinations to unlock an opposition defence while also requiring a high work-rate from the attackers so that the team can successfully press high to disrupt the opposition build-up or win the ball back high up the pitch. Denis could certainly fit into this kind of approach.
