Five people have been wounded in a shooting in the northwest end of the city, Eurasia Diary reports citing Toronto City News.
Police say they were called to an apartment complex on Clearview Heights Road in the area of Trethewey Drive and Black Creek Drive just after 7:30 p.m.
Police the victims were all in the hallway of the complex when three suspects showed up and two of them opened fire on the group.
Four people were transported to hospital, three of them via emergency run. Paramedics say their injuries range from serious to critical.
Police say a fifth person showed up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound.
Police say the victims, two females aged 16 and 17 and three males aged 16 to 18, were targeted.
“It was specific, that group was targeted by the suspects,” said police chief Mark Saunders. “They came in and within a short period of time of coming into the building, they opened that door and fired directly at those people who were standing in the hallway.”
Police recovered more than 20 bullet casings at the scene and are asking the public’s help in locating the suspects, who fled the scene in a black sedan eastbound on Clearview Heights towards Trethewey.
“There is the concern of retribution and so if there is going to be any type of retribution, then that would add to our count and that is something that is concerning,” said Saunders.
“So that’s why we’re making this appeal to hope that we can apprehend these people before any future gun violence happens in our city.”
