The nomination of Donald Trump as the candidate of the Republican Party for the presidency of the United States in the upcoming election will make it difficult for Washington to provide additional assistance to Kyiv.
Ednews reports that former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said this.
"I call it a geopolitical disaster because its impact will be devastating during the election campaign. The results of sociological polls conducted in the United States show that support for Ukraine among Americans is weakening. If Trump is a presidential candidate, this process will accelerate. "The very fact that his ideas are attractive to a certain part of American society will lead American politics in the wrong direction," he said.
Rasmussen noted that Trump would support the course of ending further US aid to Ukraine, which would amount to capitulation:
"I hope that the Republicans in the upcoming presidential election will nominate a candidate who is more inclined to the leading role of the United States in world affairs than Trump."
