Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said on Friday that he believes the Arab League will return Syria to the organization after the vote on a "reversal of the freeze on Syria's membership" scheduled for May 7, Ednews informs via CNN.
According to a report published by CNN, Syrian President Bashar Al Assad will lead the Arab League summit on May 19 in case his country is reinstated to the organization. "The whole movement in the Arab world to try and have a leading role in efforts to bring about a political end to the Syrian crisis took place against a backdrop, a reality in which there was no effective effort to solve the crisis," Safadi told the network.
In 2011, Arab League member states agreed to exclude Syria from the membership and impose economic and political sanctions over its failure to end the government's crackdown on pro-democracy protests and stop the violence.
