International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi stated that he finds it "absolutely logical" that many people and countries are interested in assessing Japan's plan to release to dispose of the water from the disabled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) into the sea.
Speaking to reporters in Seoul, where he was met with several groups of environmental protesters, Grossi noted he understands those concerns. Still, he insisted that the approval the IAEA gave to Japan was made "in conformity with international safety standards."
Earlier during the weekend, Grossi discussed Japan's plan and the IAEA's assessment with South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin. He is expected to have another meeting on the matter with the main opposition Democratic Party.
