European Union have sent help to Greece to battle wildfires, said Balazs Ujvari, spokesperson for European Commision Budget and Human Resources, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Ednews reports.
Italy and France each sent two firefighting planes to Greece to help it cope with wildfires burning on multiple fronts around Athens, with more extreme heat on the way.
The planes and their teams of firefighters are part of an EU civil protection mechanism, and they will join some 30 Romanian firefighters already stationed in Greece as part of a seasonal EU fire program.
Additionally, the satellite data to determine the extent and points of the fire within the framework of the "Copernicus" program, which is a component of the European Union's space program, is submitted to the relevant agencies of Greece.
