At least 40 people were killed and over 100 others injured in a bomb explosion at a political rally on the outskirts of Khar, the capital of Bajur district in northwestern Pakistan.
The event was organized by supporters of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, a hardline cleric and leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, which is part of Pakistan's coalition government.
While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the Islamic State group is known to operate in the neighboring Afghanistan region.
