Former United States President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that his legal team will be requesting, "ON VERY POWERFUL GROUNDS," the recusal of Tanya Chutkan, a District of Columbia district judge overseeing the election case against him.
"THERE IS NO WAY I CAN GET A FAIR TRIAL WITH THE JUDGE 'ASSIGNED' TO THE RIDICULOUS FREEDOM OF SPEECH/FAIR ELECTIONS CASE. EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS, AND SO DOES SHE!" Trump said on Truth Social. He also revealed that he will be seeking to move the legal proceedings in the case to a new location, outside of Washington DC, which he described as a "FILTHY AND CRIME RIDDEN EMBARRASSMENT TO OUR NATION."
According to the US media, Chutkan had handed down some of the toughest sentences against protesters at the Capitol building in January 2021. In a previous ruling against Trump, she notably wrote that "presidents are not kings, and plaintiff [Trump] is not President."
