British Conservative Member of Parliament Nadine Dorries formally resigned her Commons seat on Saturday after saying she would leave her post "with immediate effect" in June. She was a longtime ally of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, serving as MP since 2005 and as secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport from 2021 to 2022.
In her resignation letter, Dorries attacked current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, warning him that "history will not judge you kindly" and accusing him of abandoning "the fundamental principles of Conservatism." She claimed that, since Sunak took office a year ago, "the country is run by a zombie parliament where nothing meaningful has happened" and said he has "no mandate from the people and the government is adrift."
