An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 struck sotuh of New Zealand's Kermadec Islands, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said on Friday.
The quake's epicenter was registered about 705 kilometers northeast of the city of Tauranga on New Zealand's North Island, at a depth of 89.8 kilometers. No tsunami warning has been issued following the tremor. "Based on current information, the initial assessment is that the earthquake is unlikely to have caused a tsunami that will pose a threat to New Zealand," the country's National Emergency Management Agency stated.
There have been no immediate reports of potential damage or casualties.
