Amazon.com Inc. launched its first prototype satellites into space on Friday as part of Project Kuiper, a low Earth orbit satellite broadband initiative that aims to produce and deploy more than 3,200 satellites over the next six years.
A United Launch Alliance (ULA) LLC's Atlas V 501 rocket carried the satellites and the liftoff took place at Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
"We're going to learn an incredible amount regardless of how the mission unfolds," Rajeev Badyal, Project Kuiper's vice president of technology, commented.
