British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, according to Downing Street. The two discussed the ongoing crisis in the relations between Canada and India over the Indian government's alleged involvement in the killing of a Sikh activist in Canada. Sunak said he hoped for a "de-escalation in the situation" between the two countries belonging to the Commonwealth of Nations.
Sunak "reaffirmed the UK’s position that all countries should respect sovereignty and the rule of law, including the principles of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations," according to the statement. India reportedly recently asked Canada to withdraw almost 40 of its diplomats from the country as tensions persist.
